ABOUT

Shiloh Hills Pudelpointers is located in Stantonville, TN. Stantonville is a small rural community near the Shiloh National military park and Tennessee River. We have 30 acres of pasture and wooded land with a year-round creek running through it. At Shiloh Hills Pudelpointers, we focus on producing some of the finest pudelpointers in America. We use only NAVHDA tested pudelpointers in our breeding program. Our focus is to produce the finest versatile hunting companions you will find anywhere.

As a life-long bird hunter myself, I know how exciting it is to have a dog that you can depend on while in the field. Whether you are a fowl hunter, looking for duck or goose in the winter, or an avid upland game hunter in the fall, we have dogs that can find them all. I have hunted most of my life, and I know what it means to have the dog of your dreams.

If you have any questions, please contact us and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Pudelpointer History

The pudelpointer was developed in Germany by Baron von Zedlitz in 1881. The poodle (or pudel in German) offered intelligence, retrieving instincts and a love of water. It was also easy to train and eager to please. The pointer loved to hunt, had an excellent nose, great endurance and the pointing instinct. The result was a loyal companion dog that is capable in the water and the field and makes an ideal dog for the home as well.

The pudelpointer was brought to North America in 1956 by Sigbot “Bodo” Winterhelt, a world-renowned trainer. He wanted to establish the breed with traits that would grow stronger with each passing generation. As a trainer, he also wanted to ensure that the breed didn’t deteriorate on the show bench like other sporting breeds. Winterhelt started NAVHDA, or North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association. This was to “foster, promote, and improve the versatile hunting dog breeds in North America“.

Today, the pudelpointer has become one of the most sought after breeds for hunting because of its natural ability and enthusiasm to hunt and point game and retrieve on both land and water.  Properly trained, this breed will work hard for it’s handler while remaining in control and obedient.

Our Dogs

BELLA our female scored a NA prize 1, 110 in NAVHDA testing. Bella likes to stretch her legs in the field, she has a strong nose and a solid point on birds. Bella has a strong prey drive and a great connection with her handler.

DEZI, our second female, is a litter mate of Bella.. Dezi is a sweet girl with a strong prey drive.  She loves the water and has a focused retrieve. Dezi scored a NA prize 1, 110 in NAVHDA testing.

EMMA is our newest addition to the team.  We have acquired her from Happy Valley Gun Dogs in Roseburg.  We are happy to add this lovely black lady to our breeding stock and expect some spectacular pups out of her.  Emma scored a pefrect NA prize 1, 112 in NAVHDA testing.

MAGGIE came to us in 2022 and is our first black Pudelpointer.  She is our little firecracker who is (almost too) intelligent.  She has an awesome ability to figure things out for herself and is eager to please.  Maggie scored a perfect 112, Prize 1 in her NA test in spring 2023 and we look forward to adding her to our breeding program.

BEAU came to us in late 2021.  He tested NA in mid 2022 and he will test UT in 2023.  Beau will become our in-house stud dog.  Beau has a strong nose and a solid point.  He is excellent in the water and, after UT training, we expect him to be an impressive waterfowl dog.

DEACON is one of the stud dogs we use.  He is a son of Lon.  Lon comes from the line of pudelpointers bred by Sigbot "Bodo" Winterhelt.
